Matchday three of the 2026/27 Premier League season saw the leading sides tighten their grip at the top, while those at the wrong end of the table salvaged priceless points in the closing seconds.
The Emirates Stadium staged the standout fixture of the round, where reigning champions Arsenal edged Chelsea 2-1 in the London derby. The visitors could not have asked for a better start, Morgan Rogers opening the scoring after just 77 seconds. Yet the Gunners turned the game on its head in a hurry. Kai Havertz levelled on 25 minutes, and captain Martin Odegaard struck the winner early in the second half. Xabi Alonso's side pressed until the final whistle, but David Raya produced a superb save to deny substitute Estevao and preserve all three points for the hosts.
At Goodison Park, Everton and Manchester United shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Michael Carrick's side went ahead early in the second half through Bryan Mbeumo, only for the hosts to reply on 83 minutes with a precise finish from George. Benjamin Sesko then nudged the visitors back in front on 88 minutes and Manchester United looked set for victory. Deep into the sixth minute of added time, though, Ainsley Maitland-Niles rescued a point for David Moyes's side with a stunning strike from distance.
Manchester City remain top of the table. Enzo Maresca's side saw off newly promoted Coventry City 1-0, the winner arriving, as ever, from Erling Haaland, who headed home on 26 minutes. For the Norway striker it was a landmark moment: his 300th club goal.
Andoni Iraola's Liverpool celebrated their first win of the season. The Merseysiders won 2-0 away at Ipswich Town, with the contest effectively settled inside the opening 10 minutes — Alexander Isak scored twice, both goals created by Cody Gakpo. New signing Bradley Barcola made his debut, while Ronald Araujo was flawless at the back.
There were goals aplenty at Craven Cottage, where Crystal Palace beat Fulham 3-2. A brace from left-back Tyrick Mitchell and a goal from substitute Ben Chilwell earned the visitors their first three points of the campaign. In Matthias Jaissle's first match in charge, meanwhile, Newcastle United salvaged a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth thanks to a late Jacob Ramsey goal.
Elsewhere, Brentford and Sunderland shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Vitaly Janelt's opener cancelled out by an Enzo Le Fée penalty. Brighton and Leeds also finished 1-1, Jayden Bogle's accurate finish answered by the young Luka Vuskovic. Nottingham Forest against Tottenham and Hull City against Aston Villa both ended goalless (0-0).
After three rounds, Manchester City and Arsenal lead the way on nine points apiece with perfect records. Unbeaten Hull City sit just behind on seven. The title race in England is already up and running, and nobody looks willing to slip up.
