Michael Carrick's injury list at Manchester United has grown even longer during the international break. Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes played through pain against Wales and consequently missed the meeting with Norway. "He played with an injury he brought from Manchester United," national team manager Jorge Jesus confirmed to the media. Denmark defender Patrick Dorgu, meanwhile, was hurt in the 30th minute of his country's game against Wales and has returned to Manchester for assessment.
The selection crisis at Old Trafford is now reaching alarming levels. Matthijs de Ligt has been out for 10 months with a back injury, and Manuel Ugarte has damaged his knee ligaments. Benjamin Sesko has also left the Slovenia squad with a shin injury, while Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo were forced out of the England squad by injury at the very start of the break. Ultimately, with just one win from the opening weeks of the Premier League season, Carrick will head into the resumption of the domestic campaign with a desperately depleted squad.
