Despite an unbeaten 7-0 professional record and a 100 per cent finishing rate, Miami police officer Luis Hernandez goes into his fight for a UFC contract as a +150 underdog. The 30-year-old first drew wide attention when Sean Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champion, stormed the cage and attacked him. That incident earned Strickland a six-month suspension and a $5,000 fine. Yet the bad blood did not last. The two fighters quickly settled their differences in private messages, and Hernandez has since said he would like to train at Strickland's gym.
Standing between Hernandez and the UFC on the Contender Series, Dana White's showcase for prospects chasing a contract, is Frenchman Hugo Guillon, who holds a 7-1 record with six stoppage wins. If Hernandez wins again, he will earn a full UFC contract and officially become a promotion colleague of the very fighter who once attacked him in the cage.
