Esteban Ocon, Haas's French driver, finished eighth at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after a battle for seventh place, and has confirmed he is a free agent for the 2027 season. The 30-year-old, who won the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, ended an eight-race points drought for the American team and spoke with total conviction about his own ability. "I've raced with everyone out there, and I've always been on par... I'm one of the best out there, and I'm not afraid to say it," Ocon declared.

Yet even as Ocon talks up his credentials, the team is actively weighing up new candidates, with Rafael Camara, a member of Ferrari's driver academy, tipped as the favourite for the seat. In Baku, Ocon passed Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson at a safety car restart and then dived past team-mate Oliver Bearman a corner later. With both cars finishing in the points, Haas significantly strengthened its position in the constructors' championship.
