Conor McGregor tore the anterior cruciate ligament and damaged the meniscus in his right knee 69 seconds into his UFC 329 main event against Max Holloway in July, losing by technical knockout. The Irishman landed awkwardly on his right leg as he threw a flying kick, leaving him unable to continue. For the 38-year-old, it is the latest serious setback after the fractured tibia he suffered against Dustin Poirier in 2021 and the collapse of his planned fight with Michael Chandler. "The work is backing yourself. Every day," McGregor wrote on social media alongside a photo of himself training.

Despite the severity of the injury, the Irish star has no intention of quitting and is working through an intensive rehabilitation programme. McGregor has just one fight left on his current UFC contract. The former two-weight champion says he plans to return to the Octagon in July 2027, during the UFC's traditional International Fight Week.
