Lisandro Martinez publicly criticised Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox over a lack of summer signings following the 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid. The 28-year-old Argentina defender was reportedly fined by the club before issuing a public apology, and manager Michael Carrick has confirmed the matter is closed.

"The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones," Martinez said. Carrick confirmed the defender will definitely be in the squad for the game against Leeds United. Former captain Roy Keane described the situation at the club as a "circus", which is hardly a surprise with United having won just two of their nine matches this season.
