Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has apologised to the club's hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox and manager Michael Carrick, for his outspoken comments after the Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Argentine has been fined but has avoided being frozen out of the squad.

"Licha apologised for the timing, and he apologised for some of the very strong words he used after the game," Romano said. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, meanwhile, has been named as a possible successor to Carrick, although United have not opened direct talks with anyone.
