Spanish club Basket Zaragoza have clashed with NBA side Oklahoma City Thunder over the playing rights of 2.21-metre Spanish centre Aday Mara. Zaragoza have notified FIBA, basketball's world governing body, as well as the NBA and the Thunder that Mara is under contract for the 2026-27 season and cannot play in another league without an international transfer agreement.

In response, the Thunder pointed out that Mara had played three seasons of NCAA college basketball at UCLA and Michigan, winning the national title with the latter in April. The dispute intensified when it emerged that, under NBA rules, the Spanish club's consent is not required for the 12th pick in the 2026 draft.
