The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially announced that they will raise Russell Westbrook's No 0 jersey to the rafters of the Paycom Center on 7 February 2027, during their game against the New York Knicks. The 37-year-old point guard brought the curtain down on an 18-year career over the summer, having spent the first 11 seasons in Oklahoma City. Drafted fourth overall in 2008, he made eight All-Star appearances for the franchise and was named the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2016-17 season. A historic legacy. He averaged a triple-double that season, the first player to do so since Oscar Robertson in 1961-62.

Westbrook holds the NBA record with 209 triple-doubles. "Many players make an impact, but only great players leave a legacy," said Sam Presti, the club's general manager. Over 1,301 career games, Westbrook averaged 20.9 points, 8.0 assists and 6.9 rebounds.
