FIFA has accused UEFA of waging a targeted campaign of harassment and misinformation against its president, Gianni Infantino, in a filing to a federal court in Miami. European football's governing body had sought access to documents on the collapsed plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors, accusing Infantino of damaging the tournament's interests. "UEFA's conduct demonstrates that its application was made in bad faith and for the purpose of harassment," FIFA's lawyers argued in the submission.

The feud has deepened since UEFA declared that it had lost all confidence in Infantino and planned to put forward a rival candidate for the 2027 presidential election. In FIFA's view, the European body's application is designed to exert improper pressure on the race. Adding to Infantino's troubles, the Premier League and three other leading European leagues have entered the fray, demanding a fundamental overhaul of FIFA's governance. Nominations for the presidency officially close on 18 November.
