Harry Kane, England's 33-year-old captain, has agreed in principle to extend his Bayern Munich contract until the summer of 2029, with the club now finalising the paperwork. At Real Madrid, 21-year-old Turkish midfielder Arda Guler has signed a new deal after Arsenal and Manchester City both tried to prise him away in the summer. Newcastle United, meanwhile, are planning a one-year extension for 31-year-old Jacob Murphy.

Elsewhere, the race for talent is heating up. Liverpool have moved to the front of the queue for Alex Scott, Bournemouth's 23-year-old English midfielder, who is valued at £100 million. Premier League clubs are also tracking Issa Doumbia, the 22-year-old Italian midfielder at Portuguese club Sporting, whose release clause stands at €80 million. At Leeds United, 27-year-old German forward Lukas Nmecha is turning down a new contract over a lack of playing time, while former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has declared himself ready to take charge of Wrexham, who play in the Championship, England's second tier. Scott, though, remains the prime target for England's heavyweights.
