Japan's Kei Nishikori, 36, has confirmed that he will officially bring the curtain down on his professional career on home soil, at the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo. The 2014 US Open finalist, who became the first Asian man in history to reach a Grand Slam singles final, has ultimately decided against playing on, worn down by years of chronic injuries. "This is my last moment," an emotional Nishikori told ATP Media ahead of the tournament.

It was, undeniably, a career of real distinction. Nishikori collected 12 ATP titles and climbed to world number four in the spring of 2015. Yet the injuries took their toll, restricting him to just 20 matches in 2025 and leaving him 158th in the rankings at the end of that season. His last opponent, in the first round of his farewell tournament, will be American Frances Tiafoe.
