Tom Nolan, the 26-year-old Australian, beat Renato Moicano by third-round technical knockout in the UFC Vegas 123 main event. In the second round Moicano had taken Nolan's back, only for referee Dan Miragliotta to unexpectedly stand the fighters up. The 6ft 3in Nolan seized the opportunity, landing a crushing knee that hurt his opponent. At 1:28 of the third round, a flurry of elbows settled the fight for good. The stand-up proved a controversial call, and the winner acknowledged the reaction inside the arena: "Nah, I mean, you heard the crowd — they didn't love it."

"What a clean cross right, ohhhh... Bro, it's like we f***ing prepared for that. City Kickboxing, best gym in the world, let's go," Nolan added of his striking. The victory was his sixth in a row at lightweight in the UFC and took his record to 12-1. For Moicano, now 21-8-1, it was a third defeat in his last four fights. In the co-main event, Jacobe Smith beat Randy Brown by unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, to stay unbeaten at 14-0.
