Sergio Perez has extended his contract with Cadillac until 2029, even though the American team have yet to score a single point in their debut 2026 season. The 36-year-old Mexican, who will mark his 300th grand prix at his home race in Mexico City, joined the team in August 2025 alongside fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas. Perez has won six races since his Formula 1 debut in 2011, five with Red Bull and one with Racing Point. Yet despite finishing runner-up in the 2023 championship, he was dropped by Red Bull at the end of 2024.

His best result this season is a modest 14th place, recorded in Barcelona, at Silverstone and in Azerbaijan. Progress takes time. "Joining the Cadillac Formula 1 team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter... Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work, and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding," Perez said.
