Honda will become only the fifth engine manufacturer in Formula 1 history to reach 500 race entries when it lines up at this weekend's United States Grand Prix, a journey that began at the 1964 German Grand Prix. Honda-powered cars have 499 entries but 498 starts, because Jenson Button and Takuma Sato did not take the start at Indianapolis in 2005 amid the Michelin tyre problems. Honda joins Ferrari, with 1,145 entries and 1,141 starts, Renault on 774 and 771, Mercedes on 630 and 628, and Ford-Cosworth on 528 and 523.
"This year, we have the privilege of celebrating 500 races in Formula 1... Our power units have been fully serviced at HRC Sakura and are ready for Austin," said chief engineer Shintaro Orihara. Together with partner Aston Martin, Honda will head to the Circuit of the Americas with renewed energy.
