Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton says there has never been a driver like him in more than 70 years of Formula 1, and has vowed to keep racing well into his forties until the championship returns to Africa. Formula 1 has signed a 10-year agreement with Rwanda to stage a grand prix from the early 2030s, which will be the first race on the continent since 1993. By then, the British Ferrari driver will be at least 45.

The goal is set. "Of course there are challenges up ahead that I can't foresee that come with age," Hamilton told a press conference ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix. "But along this journey there have been so many pre-conceived ideas like that your reaction time drops off... Did you see my reaction time in the last race? It was faster than some of the youngest people here." He added: "As long as you are willing to sacrifice everything, which I am right now – I can't say in four years whether I will want to continue doing what I'm doing – but I am still all in." Hamilton, who won the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix in June, is third in the championship and locked in a fight for second, just a point behind George Russell.
