Alpine boss Flavio Briatore has condemned Franco Colapinto's collision with team-mate Pierre Gasly and McLaren's Lando Norris at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as a very poor move. The 23-year-old Argentine braked too late into Turn 1 and took both Alpines out of the race. "I want to take time to reflect on it and consider what course of action should be taken," Briatore warned in the aftermath.
The crash robbed Alpine of a double-points finish, and the stewards handed Colapinto a 10-second penalty. As he had retired and could not serve it, the sanction was converted into a five-place grid drop for the next race, the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is being held at Malaysia's Sepang circuit this year. Briatore has reportedly not ruled out standing the Argentine down for that race either, with reserve driver Paul Aron able to step in. Colapinto, for his part, went round the Alpine garage apologising to every member of the team in person.
