17th after nine Premier League games — Manchester United are level on points with the relegation zone. Michael Carrick's position looks extremely shaky despite the 3-2 Champions League comeback win over Roma. The club's hierarchy have sounded out former France head coach Didier Deschamps, 58, who has been out of work since the 2026 World Cup, where France were knocked out in the semi-finals. Deschamps is wary of walking into the current crisis at Old Trafford, and according to the Daily Mirror he has told United he is not interested. United have also been in contact with Unai Emery, who is under contract at Aston Villa until 2029, and Julian Nagelsmann. The walls are closing in. Meanwhile, Cesc Fàbregas's Como demolished Lens 9-1 in the Champions League.
