Liverpool legend turned pundit Jamie Carragher has called for Manchester City to be stripped of every title they won between 2009 and 2018 after the club were found guilty of breaching financial rules, and for their owners to be driven out of English football. City lifted three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups in that period, and Carragher did not mince his words. "I do think Manchester City's titles they've won in this time, or trophies, should be taken off their list," he said, before adding: "I don't know how the owners can continue in English football."
The row has reached boiling point since Ferran Soriano, City's chief executive, branded the process a "Premier League conspiracy theory" in a leaked video message to the club's players and staff. Carragher said the claim beggared belief and accused City's hierarchy of gaslighting their own players and supporters. In his view, the club have left an indelible stain on the careers of stars such as Kevin De Bruyne, whose success the football world will now forever view with suspicion.
