France captain Kylian Mbappé has been ruled out of the rest of the international window after hyperextending the posterior capsule of his left knee in the 1-0 Nations League win over Turkey. Having struck the winner in the 54th minute, the forward was forced off in the 59th, unable to play through the pain, and headed back to Real Madrid for medical tests. Zinedine Zidane, the France manager, sent on Désiré Doué in his place.
Tests have shown the 27-year-old will need two weeks of intensive treatment. Real Madrid expect him back for the Champions League trip to Roma on 14 October and fully fit for El Clásico against Barcelona on 25 October. Without their captain, France are expected to lean on a front three of Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise and Désiré Doué for their remaining Nations League fixtures against Italy and Belgium.
