Bukayo Saka limped off in the 10th minute with a sharp muscle pain, casting a shadow over Arsenal's 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich. "They are a bit concerned... A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we have to wait and see," Mikel Arteta told TNT Sports of the club's medical staff. At his press conference, the Arsenal manager also reflected on a congested calendar and the relentless intensity of the contest. "The level of intensity these games require is something incredible... This is man-to-man for 96 minutes. Every action. There's no breathing," he said, before adding of Saka: "It doesn't look good at all."
Eberechi Eze, Saka's replacement, put Arsenal ahead shortly after coming on, only for Alphonso Davies to equalise from a Harry Kane assist before Kane converted a penalty to put Bayern in front. Declan Rice levelled in the 82nd minute from Viktor Gyokeres's pass, his sixth goal in the Champions League. "When you play against teams who are man-to-man all over the pitch, you have to apply certain principles... Gyokeres has been making such a good impact... We aren't just going to come here and sit," Rice said. It was only the second time in Arsenal's history in Europe's premier club competition that they scored first, fell behind and still avoided defeat.
