Novak Djokovic won the China Open for a seventh time after Australia's Alex de Minaur retired injured in the final with the score at 7-6, 0-1. The 39-year-old Serb's victory brought him a 102nd career title and moved him a step closer to Roger Federer's record of 103. Djokovic also extended his unbeaten run in Beijing to 34-0.
It was a dramatic week for the Serb. Daniil Medvedev was defaulted in the semi-finals for striking a spectator with a ball while Djokovic led 7-5, 5-3 and was serving for the match, sending him into the final. Even so, the champion got the better of three top-10 opponents over the course of the tournament and boosted his bid to return to the world's top 10.
