Fiorentina have dismissed manager Fabio Grosso barely three months after appointing him, despite backing him with more than €120 million of transfer spending. A catastrophic start in Serie A, Italy's top flight, and three successive defeats — to Roma, Frosinone and Torino — brought furious protests from the stands, with Curva Fiesole, the club's most militant supporters' group, demanding his immediate removal. Grosso himself gave no ground and had no intention of resigning. Sunday changed all of that. A meeting with sporting director Fabio Paratici transformed the situation, and after a tense exchange that spilled over into open argument, the Italian decided to walk away of his own accord. Paolo Vanoli returns in his place, with his first fixture in charge away to Venezia on Friday.
