Philadelphia 76ers centre Ariel Hukporti ruptured his right Achilles tendon just six minutes after coming on in a pre-season game against the New York Knicks. The 24-year-old went down off the ball and was helped from the court by his former team-mate Karl-Anthony Towns. An MRI scan officially confirmed the severity of the injury, and the German has since undergone surgery.

Selected with the 58th pick in the 2024 draft, the German centre made 79 appearances for the Knicks over the past two seasons and won a championship ring. The 76ers are putting everything into their new signing's full rehabilitation, but there is no date yet for his return and he faces a real risk of missing the season.
