LeBron James has officially begun preparing for his 24th NBA season, stepping out at media day in the Philadelphia 76ers' No. 23 jersey. The 41-year-old forward, the league's all-time leading scorer, has signed a two-year, $8 million veteran minimum contract, the lowest salary the league allows for a player of his experience. "You guys know who I am, right?" James quipped as his press conference got under way. His title ambitions were just as unmistakable. "I didn't leave my family to lose in the second round," he said.
Philadelphia finished last season with a 45-37 record before the New York Knicks knocked them out in the second round of the play-offs, a defeat that triggered a radical overhaul of the roster. James will now share the court with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown. The four-time champion added that the great strength of his game is his ability to do absolutely everything on the floor, and the 76ers will lean on that versatility as they chase a first title since 1983.
