UoH records sporadic Covid-19 cases; VC appeals all to follow safety protocols – Times of India

HYDERABAD: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has reported sporadic Covid-19 cases recently among students, scholars, teaching non-teaching staff, administrative and support staff and their family members. Following this, the UoH vice-chancellor Prof Appa Rao Podile has sought cooperation of the entire university fraternity to continue a state of ‘high alert’ about the rise in infections.

According to officials, the university has reported 12-15 cases of which three to four are day scholars. Following the spurt in cases, the vice-chancellor has appealed to the students and scholars on campus to make an informed call on going back to their native places at the earliest possible occasion.

“Students and scholars may take an informed call to get back to their native places at the earliest possible occasion with information to all concerned in the campus if they plan to do so. University shall not structure its academic activities in a manner that requires you to stay on campus, ”said Prof Podile in an appeal made to the university fraternity on April 8.

All of those tested positive within the campus are under isolation and undergoing the required treatment. None of them are those residing in the hostels.

Reminding the students about the undertaking signed by them before entering the campus, the VC said that if the state or containment authorities take over the campus, the university will be constrained to follow their instructions.
