Two universities in Odisha get vice-chancellors – Times of India


BHUBANESWAR: Odisha governor and chancellor of universities Ganeshi Lal on Monday appointed Umaballava Mohapatra and Sanjay Kumar Satapathy as vice-chancellors (VCs) of Rajendra University, Balangir and Kalahandi University, Bhawanipatna respectively.

The vice-chancellors have been appointed for a period of four years with effect from the date they assume office or until further orders.

Mohapatra, a retired professor of botany, North Odisha University has teaching experience of around 33 years. He has authored one book and successfully guided 14 PhD and 24 MPhil scholars.

“Rajendra University, which is created by the government recently, has 18 departments. Appointment of teachers is important to run the teaching learning process and it may take some months before appointment of teachers by the Odisha Public Service Commission. But we can continue the classes by appointing guest lecturers via offline or online keeping the Covid situation in mind, ”said Mohapatra.

He said there is an issue of hostel accommodation for the students of this university. “We are planning to create temporary arrangements in rented accommodations for these students. Another major thing is to increase the number of books for PG classes in the university library. Besides, we will complete the process of transfer of affiliated colleges from Sambalpur University to Rajendra University, ”he added.

Satapathy, a retired professor of commerce, Ravenshaw University, has authored 24 books including 13 academic books. He has more than 36 years of teaching experience and has successfully guided 20 PhD scholars.

These two universities were created in 2019. On June 19 last year, VCs of Berhampur University and Sambalpur University were given additional charge as first VCs of Kalahandi University and Rajendra University respectively.
