Disability identification card can be used as photo ID for registration on Co-WIN 2.0 – ET HealthWorld

In a move to help disabled persons access covid-19 vaccination, the Union Ministry of Health on Monday informed that it has directed the States/UTs to include the Unique Disability Identification (UDID) Card as a valid photo ID for registration on Co-WIN 2.0. The decision has been taken to further facilitate access of persons with disabilities to vaccination.

Currently, there are seven photo IDs valid for verification of beneficiaries on Co-Win 2.0 prior to their vaccination, specified and prescribed as per the guidance note issued by the government as on 2nd March 2021.

The UDID card, issued to persons with disability by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has all the necessary features such as the name, year of birth, gender and photograph of the person, and meets the criteria for use of identification in Covid-19 vaccination, stated the letter by Ministry.

The ministry has advised states and UTs to widely publicize the use of UDID card as a permissible photo ID for accessing vaccination. The necessary provisions for the same are being made and would be available in Co-WIN shortly, said the release.

In the earlier issued guidelines by the union health ministry in February this year, all beneficiaries, regardless of the mode of access, had to carry any one of the photo ID document such as Aadhaar card, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), the photo ID card specified at the time of registration in case of online registration (if not Aadhaar or EPIC), certificate of co-morbidity for citizens in the age group of 45-59 years and employment certificate/official identity card.
